I ; Kyo’s mind works at an extremely high pace . As such , her ability to process and react to new information is extremely high . This has caused her to have rather cat - like reflexes , and causes Kyo to become easily frightened if her guard is not up .

II ; Kyo originally studied the breath of water , though soon moved to developing her own style of fighting after learning of her rather unique reflexes .

III ; despite the name of her breath style , Kyo’s mind is hardly up in the clouds . She’s incredibly down to earth and a logical thinker . Occasionally . Most of the time , her mind is running rampant with the speed at which it processes information , causing Kyo to become seriously hyperactive . While it’s possible to somewhat slow her mind down , she can only do so much .

IV ; Kyo deeply desires to become a pillar . Primarily to become a person others can rely on , but also to prove herself . Being the only surviving member of her family besides her mother and youngest sister , Kyo wishes for nothing more than to gain the approval of her mother .

V ; Kyo’s primary inspiration behind the Breath of Cloud came from her elder brother . The two were gazing up at the sky , and wound up having a conversation about the clouds above for hours . It was the last real conversation they ever got to have , in fact .

VI ; Kyo finds it difficult to take most things seriously . Though she may seem dismissive and uncaring at times , the fact of the matter is that her ability to process information at a remarkably high speed kills her attention span , and causes focusing in the slightest margin to become difficult . Though this is not a problem when in combat , as the nature of a battle keeps her mind always occupied .

Arya Kyo was the second of five children born into the Kyo family , though was generally regarded as more mature than her older brother . Six years after her birth came her twin sisters , and a further three years later came her youngest sister . Their mother and father were alive and well , and the seven of them lived on the outskirts of a small city . They weren’t too well off , but they were a happy family nonetheless .

Kyo’s brother was a full five years older than her , though generally seemed to act three years younger . He was , however , rather gifted with the sword . To the point we’re he even entered the Demon Slaying Corps , in an effort to protect his family . He’d left when Arya was eight , and returned three years later to quite the surprise . Arya had also begun to train herself - using the wooden dummy sword her brother once used . Though she was young , her ambitions were already set on following her brother’s steps . Of course , due to the perilous nature of demon hunting , he initially opposed her aspiration , as did her parents . Though , as her parents had already discovered , Arya’s resolve was not backing down . And so , she did become a demon slayer . Age age 13 , Arya took the final selection exam . Her brother had given her a Nichirin blade of his own for the exam , though it was broken during a fight of the final night . A fight that left her with quite the scar on her upper left arm , but not without her life .

Arya returned home to her family , where she was enthusiastically congratulated , as was her brother after passing his own final selection . The apprehension in her parent’s eyes remained , however . Soon afterwards , her own Nichirin blade was delivered . It took on a cloudy mix of white and blue across near half the blade , causing the weapon itself to give off a rather cloud - like appearance . It was for good reason , however - as the young demon slayer would soon develop a technique to match it . Arya and her brother then began to work together as slayers , despite the fact she more or less held her brother back , it was thanks to him her initial skills with the blade developed . Arya and her brother worked together until not too long after her 14th birthday , at which point the Water Pillar - Giyuu Tomioka , caught her attention . Unlike most slayers , Arya seemed to be devoid of the fear many lower ranked members of the Corps seemed to hold regarding them , which certainly helped . Arya temporarily trained under the Water Pillar , until she had become physically capable of using breathing techniques .

She wasn’t quite satisfied with water , though . Arya certainly liked the technique , but struggled to master any more than three forms . As such , she did what any other person would do . She created her own technique . ‘ any other person ‘ meaning just about no one , of course . .

As such , the Breath of Cloud began it’s development . Which took almost five years , to develop and perfect all eight forms . Nine , including the form created from Arya’s extreme stress . In which time , Arya’s life drastically changed . Halfway through the year Arya discontinued her training under Tomioka , having received the tools she required , and returned to her brother’s side . The two continued to fight together , and the Breath of Cloud continued development . Her brother assisted with many techniques despite being unable to use any breathing techniques at all , and his suggestions left Arya with many options in a fight . From slashes , to jabs , to defensive manoeuvres , her brother really thought of it all . Once she’d finally turned 15 , the 8 forms of the Breath of Cloud were in development , though Arya could only consistently use the first two . Both attacks were piercing types , so slashing off a demon’s head usually fell to her brother , whilst Arya kept them busy . One may have said it worked perfectly , but if it did , her older brother would still be alive .

The duo eventually had a run - in with one of the Twelve Moons , Lower Moon Six . The bottom of the barrel in terms of the moons , their strength was still overwhelming to to practically regular humans . After a rather lengthy battle , Arya was forced to retreat , by her brother . After an argument mid - battle , the pleas of a desperate brother just wanting to protect his sister broke though Arya’s resolve , causing her to flee . An action she’d regret , but an action that kept her alive . Arya ran . Ran until her lungs felt as if they were going to burst . And she kept on running - until exhaustion caused her to collapse . She’d managed to escape with her own life , at the cost of another’s . All that was found of her brother’s was the light blue haori he wore , stained in blood , as well as the blade he once wielded . Those , and an all too damaged corpse . Arya came into possession of both the blade and haori - which now makes up the right half of her own haori - with the other coloured a cloudy white , decorated with cloudlike patterns .

Arya didn’t return home , afterwards . Not for a few weeks . And when she did , she was almost too late . Returning late at night , Arya was chilled right to the bone just outside of her home . Across it’s front door was a spray of blood , and a lifeless corpse lay half inside the house , half outside . Immediately recognisable as her own father , Arya’s gift of an uncanny ability to process information took on the form of a curse . Thoughts raced through her mind , each one worse than the next . Death . Death , was all she saw .

However , death was something she held the power to prevent . A high - pitched shriek managed to bring Arya back to her senses . To force her thoughts back onto a logical path , and to send her into action . She ran inside , brandishing the sword she’d so commonly wielded . With her brother’s sword also by her side , the girl stormed inside . Arya ran through her home - to eventually come to a stop in it’s largest room . In which , she saw nothing but despair . Two more lifeless bodies leaking blood unto the floor - those of her younger twin sisters . It was enough to cause her to throw up , but she didn’t . There was still hope . Right ?

Of course , there was . Arya was fortunate . Her mother and youngest sister were backed against the far wall . And looming over them stood a demonic being . A demon . One who had slaughtered near half her family . One that would soon meet it’s end .

In the blink of an eye , the second form of the Cloud Breathing technique was unleashed ; Piercing Raindrop . Sending Arya forwards with enough force to drive her blade into the neck of the demon , and then into the wall . Essentially , she’d pierced and pinned the creature to the wall by the neck . Luckily for her , Arya possessed a second sword . One that would receive one final use .

Arya severed the head of the demon that had killed near half of her family , with the blade of the brother who no longer stood with them . Ironic , was it not ?

That said , Arya wouldn’t be quite the same , afterwards . How could she ? She’d saved two parts of her family , but not the other four . She’d failed her brother first , sisters and father second . A life of regrets followed what happened , that night . If only she’d gone home , instead of wallowing in despair .

If it were any constellation , her youngest sister and mother survived . They were both injured , but alive . And they were going to stay that way , no matter what . No matter the cost .

Since that night , almost five years have passed . Arya Kyo is currently nineteen years of age , and has successfully developed all nine techniques of her own breath style . In a sense , Arya has worked her ass off . In order to kill any demon she comes across , her technique has been pushed to the absolute limit , as has her body . At some point during her 18th year , Arya learnt of full focus breathing - putting her even higher above a standard slayer .

Any demon is a tragedy waiting to happen . As such , Arya kills without hesitation , though with respect . Her targets may be demons , but they’re also living beings . As such , each of her kills have been carried off swiftly , albeit kindly .

Breath of the Cloud .

names can be deceiving .

named after the cloud , with it’s perfectly soft appearance , one may easily interpret the subsequent breath techniques to be just as soft . This is , however , far from the case . Under the covers of a soft - sounding name lurks a storm , as is the case with a cloud .

the breath techniques created from this form are entirely self derived from prior knowledge and observation of the breath of mist , and makes use of Kyo’s uncanny ability to process information at an extremely high rate - resulting in impeccable reflexes .

the breath techniques of this style are as follows ;

1 ) Heavy Rain . 大雨 .
a single , strong blow is brought down upon an opponent . This attack utilises the user’s upper core to further increase the impact of the blow , and allowing for an extremely hard hitting attack .

2) Piercing Raindrop . ピアス雨滴 .
the user darts forward with great speed - to aim a piercing attack upon a target . This attack is generally non - lethal due to it’s piercing nature , and instead is intended to both close distance and temporarily incapacitate a foe .

3) Cloud Wall . 雲の壁 .
the user conducts two , identical slashes on both sides of their body . One on the left , one on the right , the slashes administered by this technique are adjustable on their axis ; allowing for horizontal or vertical slashes , at differing angles . This attack was created solely for defense , but can also be utilised to simultaneously sever two demon heads .

4) Stormy Rain . 嵐の雨 .
the user rises into the sky via a jump , and rains down a flurry of high speed piercing attacks . Lacking the precision of the second form , the fourth form’s purpose is to shred an opponent to pieces through a flurry of deadly attacks .

5) Storm’s Eye . 嵐の目 .
the user pivots on their dominant foot to quickly rotate their body in a full circle , gaining momentum . This momentum is then used to bring down a single , devastating slash upon a target . Though this attack is both slow and requires ample time to reach maximum potential , the possible damage it can cause is not to be underestimated .

6) Clouded Judgement . 曇った判断 .
the user adjusts their own movements , to create the illusion of significantly slower actions . This technique exists to attack a target’s mental state rather than their physical state ; and to create an opening the user may exploit . When one such opening is discovered , a swift attack will be administered , thus breaking the illusion . Due to it’s general nature , the sixth form is commonly single use against an opponent .

7) Softened Figure . 軟化した図 .
this technique is primarily used as a build up into a second style . Becoming slow and adamant like a cloud , the user awaits a target’s movement , and acts accordingly . Whilst using this technique , the user takes on the appearance of fragility and complacency ; in order to drop an enemy’s guard . This style is unlikely to work against a high per level demon , though has it’s effects on lower classed opponents .

8) Watchful Storm . 用心深い嵐 .
the user ceases all of their movements , much like the seventh form . However , this technique produces no illusion of fragility ; and instead relies on the user shifting the entirety of their attention to processing information . At even the slightest opportunity , an upwards slash is administered to an opponent . This form is best used by Kyo , it’s inventor , due to her uncanny ability to process information . As with her other techniques , the eight form is personally stylised to this unique attribute .

9) Thunderous Cyclone . 雷サイクロン .
the ninth and strongest technique of the Breath of Cloud , this technique involves the user storming forwards and attacking the surrounding area . The user rotates when using this technique , and each subsequent rotation further ups the damage the next strike will deal . This technique will last until the user is unable to stand due to either dizziness or exhaustion , or unless they’re forcefully stopped . This attack creates both cloud and lighting , due to inspiration for this technique being take from the Breath of Thunder .

Kyo’s mother ; Akari Kyo .

her mother is the one of last remaining members of Arya’s family , and , as such , is extremely precious to her . Arya desires the strength to be able to protect her mother and sister , alongside anyone else who needs her protection .
though her mother was originally against the very idea of Arya becoming a Demon Slayer due to her older brother already putting his life on the line in the organisation , Arya’s mind wouldn’t be changed . They’re on relatively good terms ; sending letters to each other frequently .
to be frank , there are few , few people more precious to Arya than her mother .

Kyo’s youngest , and now only sister ; Aname Kyo .

Aname is the only sibling Kyo has left , and there isn’t a soul more important to her . Kyo is , of course , extremely protective of her younger sister . To the point where she’s broken the jaw of a man giving her trouble . She’d do it again , without hesitation .
Aname also looks up to Kyo - regarding her as the ‘ epitome of beauty and strength . ‘ Flattery Kyo can’t quite accept , but appreciates nonetheless . Arya adores Aname , and Aname adores Arya . The two are incredibly close sisters , and , to Arya’s unease , Aname has expressed extensive interest in becoming a Demon Slayer , like her oldest sister and brother .

Kyo’s deceased brother ; Anate Kyo .
whilst he was alive , Anate and Arya were inseparable . Each demon slaying mission they took on was performed together , and Arya was constantly learning from him . Anate was extremely protective of Arya - to the point where he willingly gave his own life so she could live , during a fight with the Lower Moon 2 . Anate wielded no breath technique yet possessed the same ability to process information as Arya , and the two used this to their advantage during battle . Arya feels responsible for her brother’s death due to her weakness , and , with the Lower Moon 2 deceased , the rage she possesses is directed at Muzan himself , for the murder of the brother she was so attached to .

Giyuu Tomioka .
due to the Breath of Cloud deriving from the Breath of Water , Kyo found herself conversing with the Water Hashira often . Primarily about the development and refining of her own technique , unsurprisingly . Though Kyo soon came to consider the male a friend of her’s , and will grow rather defensive upon hearing anyone talking badly about him .
